DONNA GAROFALO

After working for many years in oils, watercolors, pen/ink, and pastels I became passionately involved in the emerging art form; the originally designed art wall quilt. Throughout the 1980's my wall hangings traveled from coast to coast in exhibits, appeared in a number of books/publications and are included in many private/public collections, including the permanent collection of the American Quilter's Society in Kentucky. I am now back to my brushes and currently working on oils.
I am greatly inspired by God's incredibly beautiful and amazingly designed creation. I see "The Master Artist" in the multitude of hues in the changing sky, the variations of light on the water and the radiant colors of the dusk and dawn. I am intrigued by shadows, watery reflections, sun, mist and sharp contrasts. My goal is to evoke emotions of relaxation, peace, happiness, a desire to be in the very spot depicted. Also to evoke memories, such as the sound of gentle lapping water, the heat of the sun, the coolness of the morning mist, the call of a bird, the hum of an insect, the salty smell of the ocean or the pungent scent of the forest.

I have found the abundant sources of inspiration here in Maine both exciting and challenging.

My work can be seen at the Gray Wolf Gallery in Addison, Machias Bay Art and Antiques in Machias and at my studio by appointment at 295 Water St., Addison. Commissions are welcome. 207-483-4381
